In the wake of the mass shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina last week, area elected officials are inviting members of the public to join them in sending a letter of sympathy and support to Charleston residents. A copy of the letter is attached and is signed by each of the Calcasieu Mayors along with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury President. The Lake Charles City Council introduced a similar resolution of sympathy at its agenda meeting on Tuesday evening.

Individuals interested in participating can sign their name to an online guest book at www.cityoflakecharles.com at the link: “Condolences to the Community of Charleston.” Printed copies are available at any Calcasieu Parish library, or at the City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Office, 10th floor, 326 Pujo St., through Wednesday, July 8. A hard copy, which is suitable for multiple signatures, is also attached.

All signed copies should be delivered to the City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Office, before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. A printed booklet with all combined signatures and personalized messages will be mailed to Charleston on Friday, July 10. For more information, please call 491-9176.
